Either interstate migration is still on the rise around here, or incoming Atlantans really dislike U-Haul.
In what’s become more redundant than Crimson Tide national championships, Atlanta today was again named the top moving destination in the U.S. by Penske Truck Rental.
This marks the eighth straight year the ATL has captured the moving destination crown, per Penske’s numbers.
No other city has won the contest since the moving company started publicly comparing annual numbers.
A few things working in Atlanta’s favor in 2017, per Penske’s estimation, included a 62.7 degree average temperature, median home values less than $185,000, and median monthly rents less than $1,600.
Penske’s methodology, as always, was fairly simple; they tracked one-way truck reservations made for each respective place, and Sun Belt cities—as usual—dominated.

After Atlanta won in 2015, a Penske area vice president based in suburban Atlanta, Kerry Gilbert, had this to say:
It’s a great place to live and work: there are a lot of attractions here and it’s a major metropolitan area that is in close proximity to the state’s natural areas of beauty … There are a large number of major employers here, and it’s a centralized area for transportation operations on the East Coast.
