A century-old Gothic Revival skyscraper in downtown Atlanta will soon be the latest historic high-rise in the district to get a makeover.
The commercial spaces of the Healey Building—constructed as offices in 1913 and converted to condos in 2005—will undergo an extensive renovation following a sale. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Joel and Granot Real Estate and investor Dion Melzer spent $4.2 million on the 50,000 square feet of commercial space at the base of the tower.
Plans call for $1.5 million in upgrades over the next few months, with new office tenants and shops moving in this summer.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building is the latest of several historic structures to receive TLC downtown.
In the past few years, the Flatiron and Olympia buildings have been reborn thanks to projects that modernized the structures while preserving their character. And now work is underway at the Hurt and Candler buildings as well.
Could it be that downtown Atlanta’s most irreplaceable towers are finally seeing the love they deserve?
